Curriculum Goals and Objectives



I. The program will provide a safe and nurturing environment for all learners.

A. The program will follow all Department of Public Welfare guidelines and the Keystone Star 2 accreditation standards. 

B. The program will provide developmentally appropriate materials.

C. The program will provide developmentally appropriate equipment.

D. The program will provide an environment that expresses respect, empathy, and concern for all the children.

1. The program will encourage the children to express themselves and their feelings.

2. The staff will take the time to get to know each child.

II. The program will provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum that addresses physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.

A. The program will provide developmentally appropriate materials.

B. The program will provide developmentally appropriate equipment.

C. The program will provide child based learning activities that will develop physical knowledge, skills and dispositions. 

1. The program will provide daily activities to aid in gross motor development with the use of the gross motor room.

2. The program will provide age appropriate playground equipment.

D. The program will provide child based learning activities that will develop emotional knowledge, skills and dispositions. 

1. The children will be encouraged to express their feelings with others.

2. The children will understand that everyone has unique feelings.

E. The program will provide child based learning activities that will develop social knowledge, skills and dispositions. 

1. The program will provide time for the children to interact and communicate with one another.

2. The program will encourage the children to communicate with adults within the classroom, such as the teacher, aids, or visiting community members.
F. The program will provide child based learning activities that will develop cognitive knowledge, skills and dispositions. 

1. The program curriculum will provide the children with hands-on experiences.

2. The program curriculum will base learning activities on the children’s interests.

III. The program will strive to treat the diverse backgrounds of the children and their families fairly and equally.

A. The program will provide equal opportunities for cultural diversity to be integrated into daily activities. 

1. The program will encourage families to actively participate in providing multicultural experiences for the children.

B. The program will express respect, empathy, and concern for all individual family’s unique culture.

IV. The program will encourage families and community members to participate in program wide activities.

A. The program will extend invitations to the families and community members to participate in the children’s learning experiences.

1. The program will encourage families and community members to take part in classroom activities.

2. The program will encourage families and community members to take part in activities outside of the classroom.

B. The program will build positive community bonds with local businesses surrounding the center.

1. The program will assure community involvement by creating connections with the local businesses that will assist in additional learning experiences for the children.

2. The program will arrange various center activities in which the local businesses will be invited to attend.

V. The program will provide a staff that is highly qualified and experienced.

A. The program will provide a staff that has completed required certifications listed in the center’s handbook.

B. The program will provide a staff that has earned the proper degree in the required field(s) of studies. 
 
C. The program will provide multiple opportunities for additional in-staff services.

D. The program will provide a staff that has had positive prior experiences guiding the learning process of children in early learning centers.
